TAIPEI (Reuters) - Taiwan President Ma Ying-jeou, a propoenent of closer ties with China, ordered a review of weekend local election results that saw his party lose support as his own approval ratings fell, the party said on Monday.

More than four million voters went to the polls Sunday (December 6) to elect 17 mayors and magistrates, 592 city and county councilors, and 211 township and village chiefs. What were billed as “all-important local elections” were the least clean in Taiwan's brief democratic history.

BIGGEST BEAR Charles W. Olsen Jr. of Wilkes-Barre, shot the largest bear in the state so far this season. The Game Commission said Olsen's bear weighed an estimated 707 pounds. He shot it on Nov. 25 in Noxen Township.
